Have you considered a career in architecture, but also find yourself drawn to aspects of engineering? The Architectural Engineering program at University of Detroit Mercy offers a great blend of the two disciplines, whether you’re interested in the structure of a building itself or the mechanical and electrical systems that bring it to life. If you love math and science, but also want an outlet for your creative side, this could be the program for you.

Great Things At Detroit Mercy

  • Detroit Mercy has one of the few AE programs in the country with a required co-op component — actual, paid work — that allows students to graduate with real industry experience.
  • Our unique curriculum puts AE students in the same freshman year Architecture classes as Architecture students, letting those who are not quite decided try out both degrees without delaying graduation.
  • If you plan to pursue a master’s degree after graduation, you may be able to do so in as little as eight months.
  • Small class sizes — our average student-to-teacher ratio is 11:1; that means plenty of individualized attention aimed at making sure our students succeed.
  • In the tradition of our Jesuit and Mercy sponsors, Detroit Mercy offers a well-rounded education. We don’t just teach engineering; we create community leaders.

Your Boundless Future

With a degree in architectural engineering, you can choose from a variety of career opportunities, including: architectural firms, private engineering consulting companies, mechanical contractors, government, energy efficiency consultants, lighting designers, and construction companies.  There is a great demand for Architectural Engineers in our region, across the nation and around the world.
