Description
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is uniquely qualified to offer programs that blend theory and practice in an innovative way, preparing students for career options in academic, corporate, and government areas. Classes are deliberately structured to enable students who pursue a major in Mathematics or Computer Science to learn in concert with Engineering and Science majors. In this setting, the student’s appreciation of the inherent power and cohesiveness of mathematics is enhanced by the highlighted role that mathematics plays in all fields.
Degree Requirements
Mathematics Major - Bachelor of Science
This program gives students a scientifically oriented education in mathematics. In addition to the standard topics in mathematics, students select courses in advanced mathematics, statistics, computer science and/or other areas related to the department. Cooperative education is strongly recommended. Students must earn at least a C grade in each required course and have an overall 2.0 G.P.A. in the major. The major requirements are:

Electives - flexibility and focus
To allow maximum flexibility to address personal interests and to focus on career oriented objectives, students choose two elective courses and five cognate courses as follows:
Plus an additional 15 credits of electives in mathematics or in an area related to mathematics. These may include courses in mathematics, computer science, chemistry, physics, engineering, biology, economics, management science or other courses approved by the department.
