Introduction to methods of joining, including electric arc, thermo-mechanical, and radiation welding, and fasteners. Joining methods, consumable and non-consumable electrodes, power source requirements and energy balance, applications. Introduction to principles of design for assembly and robotics and robotic assembly. The application of design for assembly. Overview of robots and their application to assembly. Introduction to robotic degrees of freedom, forward and inverse kinematics, workspace, and programming. Course instruction makes heavy use of case studies and hands-on projects.
