Discussion and close analysis of poems, designed to improve critical skills, increase understanding of the genre of poetry, and show how poets voice the human concerns of their time. Discussion and close analysis of several forms of poetry, designed to improve critical skills and increase understanding of the genre of poetry and its role as a cultural artifact. By the end of the semester, students should be conversant with the basic elements and terminology used in the study of poetry.
