Detroit 2014: A New Beginning

July 27, 2014

DetroitAs Detroit has been steadily addressing its financial challenges over the last year, optimism abounds regarding the future of the city. With the significant donations that have been and will be raised for the city pensioners through the “Grand Bargain;” the initial construction of the new M-1 rail line on Woodward Avenue; neighborhood improvements across the city; the transformation of blighted properties into new housing and other uses through demolition and repurposing; critical improvements to the city’s aging infrastructure; a more vibrant downtown spurred by businesses and corporations relocating their offices and employees in historic buildings as well as new entertainment and sports venues; Detroit is an exciting place to be in 2014.

University of Detroit Mercy is actively involved in Detroit’s renaissance.

Detroit’s renewal is the result of the collaboration of many partners – city, state and federal leaders; citizens of the city, region and state; corporations and small businesses; and neighborhood organizations. Thus, Detroit is now being perceived as a great place to invest, live and work. The articles below are only a sample of the exciting activities and opportunities occurring in Detroit. After you read a few of the stories, it is my hope that you will consider joining us as Detroit celebrates its 313th year as a great American city.
