Professor Shefferly has practiced law for forty years. He specializes in property insurance litigation and pre-litigation investigation of claims as well as some disability insurance litigation on behalf of insurance carriers. His practice has included personal injury defense litigation, workers disability compensation defense and third-party litigation involving subrogation and recovery of workers compensation payments from responsible third parties. This practice has included some admiralty claim recovery as well as property loss. He is admitted to practice before all state courts in Michigan and also all the Federal District Courts in the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
He is a member of the Michigan Arson Prevention Committee and has worked with the National Fire Information Council, Michigan Anti-Car Theft Campaign Committee and the Governor's Task Force on Fire Safety. He has been founding secretary and a director of the Michigan Fire Safe Foundation, a charitable foundation dedicated to education and training of fire personnel and the public regarding issues concerning fire safety. He was certified as a power boat instructor with US Sailing in 2003.
