Jennifer A. Pilette is a referee in the juvenile section of the Third Judicial Circuit Court of Michigan- Family Division, where she presides over cases involving child abuse and neglect as well as juvenile delinquency. Ms. Pilette was a senior staff attorney in the Michigan State Appellate Defender Office in Detroit for almost 15 years before her appointment to the Court in 1999. She is also a member of the Court Improvement Committee's Education Committee. Ms. Pilette has been appointed by the Michigan State Court Administrative Office to serve on its Advisory Committee on the Lawyer/Guardian ad Litem Protocol and on the Attorney Training Taskforce, training attorneys practicing in the area of abuse and neglect.
Ms. Pilette is a contributing editor for bench books published by the Michigan Judicial Institute (MJI) and has been a faculty member for MJI's annual referee training program for the last six years.
A frequent speaker and trainer on behalf of the Court, she has an extensive history of training attorneys both nationally and locally. A past chairperson of the Children's Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan, Ms. Pilette has served on the section's council since 1999. Since 2004, she has taught Juvenile Justice as an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.
