Biography

Carol Cronin Weisfeld teaches courses in human development, human sexuality, sex differences and sex roles, cross-cultural psychology, and health psychology. She is the co-author of one edited book, and her research on male/female relations has appeared in such journals as Genetic Psychology Monographs and Archives of Sexual Behavior. Her current research concerns marital satisfaction in the U.S., England, Turkey, Russia, and China, and an edited book summarizing that research is in press, expected in 2017. In her teaching and research, Weisfeld is committed to understanding behavior as the product of multiple levels of causation, including proximate and ultimate causation. This integrative view is in the tradition of Ethology (as seen in the work of Tinbergen and Eibl-Eibesfeldt) and it is also a natural fit with current behavioral genetic breakthroughs in areas such as epigenetics.

At Detroit Mercy, Weisfeld has been active in university governance, providing leadership service to the faculty union and the McNichols Faculty Assembly. Weisfeld received her B.A. from St. Xavier College in Chicago and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. She was selected as the 1994 recipient of the President's Award for Faculty Excellence at Detroit Mercy, and she received Detroit Mercy’s Distinguished Faculty Award in 2004. She joined the University (Mercy College of Detroit) in 1979 and is active in shared governance at the University.
