On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the United States Supreme Court will begin hearing oral arguments on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Together with other Jesuit partners, the Ignatian Solidarity Network, the Office of Justice and Ecology at the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States and AJCU will participate in a rally that morning in support of the DACA program and all of its beneficiaries, including those who attend or are alumni of AJCU schools. AJCU has long supported the DACA program and spoken out on its behalf.

Detroit Mercy is proud to support this important effort. The University Ministry Office will host public witness on Nov. 12 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the area of touchdown Jesus in front of the Commerce & Finance Building. In addition, from 12:45-1:45 p.m., University Ministry will hold a prayer service to pray with DACA and raise awareness of the current issues facing this program. Weather permitting, this prayer service will take place in outside the main entrance of the library. If there is rain, the event takes place inside the library. Both events are free and open to everyone.

The Jesuits and Sisters of Mercy both support the DACA program and the program’s continuation. This invitation and call to action fits well with Detroit Mercy’s mission to create an inclusive space for all students. We hope everyone will join us to show our DACA students how much we care and need them here.
