University of Detroit Mercy prays for the victims and those affected by the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. As a Catholic university grounded in the Jesuit and Mercy traditions, we are hopeful that communities will learn how to best help those in crisis and how to avoid these tragedies in the future. Through education, we learn to be more tolerant, thoughtful, loving and compassionate human beings. We applaud the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School for their courage, which reminds us that freedom, safety and peace are critical elements of a strong educational foundation.

Therefore, we want all Detroit Mercy applicants to know that Detroit Mercy supports individuals who respectfully take part in peaceful protests on issues of conscience. Even more important, there will be no ramifications on your admissions or enrollment as we express our support of you.
