University of Detroit Mercy’s College of Business Administration will host the Center for Social Entrepreneurship Pitch Night on Friday, June 9, 2017 from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. The event takes place in the School of Architecture’s Genevieve Fisk Loranger Architecture Center on Detroit Mercy’s McNichols Campus, 4001 W. McNichols Rd. in Detroit.

This event is a celebration for the social entrepreneurs that recently graduated from the Center’s intensive nine week Boost program. The evening’s main event is the graduates social pitching their social business to the audience in the hopes of attracting capital, in-kind services or specialized technical assistance. The Boost program also represents a great networking opportunity for entrepreneurs, funders, business support providers, community groups and Detroit residents.

Through the Boost program, business owners learn advanced business principles to improve their strategic thinking, articulate their business plan and develop a business model that best demonstrates social impact, growth and long-term financial sustainability.

“Working with these social entrepreneurs is humbling for us because we get to spend time with men and women as they pursue solutions to complex social issues,” said Derrin J. Leppek, co-director of the Center for Social Entrepreneurship.  “We are honored to work with them and making sure they have the right knowledge and support to make their ventures sustainable,” he added.

The Boost program is offered twice a year and applications are open to social entrepreneurs who have a well established business model and have already launched their  business and aim to strengthen and scale their social enterprise.  Once the center assesses an applicant’s needs, whether finance, human resources, or marketing needs – the University, via the Boost Program, pairs them with local industry experts and a team of experienced facilitators to guide them through the curriculum.
