University of Detroit Mercy presented its Vivere ex Missione Award to Paige R. Dykema, a biology major with a concentration in applied genetics and a minor in leadership. The graduate has already accepted a position in the clinical trials department at Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit and also volunteers in Detroit through the Institute’s cancer outreach programs.

The Vivere ex Missione — Latin for “To Live Out the Mission” — is presented annually to one graduating student who best exemplifies the mission of UDM. Recipients are selected by the Mission, Urban and Social Justice Team, which reviews nominees’ intellectual, social, ethical and spiritual qualities.

“Paige is a true example of living out the mission,” said UDM President Antoine M. Garibaldi. As a Detroit Mercy student, she was an orientation leader, Campus Kitchens operations coordinator, Greek Council president and a member of the Chemistry Club, Student Alumni Association and the Alpha Phi Omega sorority. Her spirit and positive attitude inspire all who interact with her to do more.
