University of Detroit Mercy alumnus Gary MacLean ’65 has always placed great value on a student’s education, being prepared for building a successful career. A longtime supporter of the University, he has contributed thousands of dollars to scholarships to assist UDM students in funding their education.

Gary MacLean ’65In 2015, MacLean made a significantly larger investment in the University with a $250,000 gift for scholarships to help students in the College of Business Administration.  His gift will both fund expendable scholarships in the College and help build UDM’s endowment.

“I believe in education,” MacLean said, “And if I can do something to help the students, I think I should.”

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from UDM before attending Georgetown University, where he finished his law degree. In 1968 he joined MacLean and Proppe, a law firm started in 1957 by his father and former partner Edward Proppe ’43. MacLean was joined a year later by Dan Darnell ’66, a former classmate and brother in the national business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi. The law firm was incorporated into MacLean, Proppe, MacLean & Darnell, P.C. in 1972. It will celebrate its 60th year in business in 2017.
