Cushing Lecture Welcomes Biblical Studies Professor Emerson Powery

UDM’s eighth annual Cushing Distinguished Lecture will be presented by Emerson Powery, Professor of Biblical Studies at Messiah College, on Thursday, March 26 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Student Center's Fountain Lounge on UDM's McNichols Campus.

Emerson B. Powery, Professor of Biblical Studies at Messiah College, received his B.A. from Lee University, Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and Ph. D from Duke University. Powery serves on the editorial boards of the Common English Bible and the Journal of Biblical Literature (2005-Present) and is a recent past regional President of the Society of Biblical Literature (SE Region; 2006-2007).

Among his publications are the co-authored Invitation to the New Testament (2008), edited volume True to Our Native Land: An African American NT Commentary (Fortress/Augsburg, 2007) and Jesus Reads Scripture (Brill, 2003). He resides in Enola, PA with his spouse, Kimberly, and their four sons.

The lecture is free and open to the public with no RSVP required. Cushing Distinguished Lecture events are sponsored by UDM's Religious Studies Department and are, "intended for the intellectual enrichment of students, faculty, and the community."
