August Heats Up on Livernois Avenue

Looking for some cool events to heat up the rest of your summer? Look no further than Livernois Avenue, where the quickly developing area has a jam-packed calendar for the last full month of summer. Check out these great activities:

July 28-August 28: Now in its fifth year, the Detroit Institute of Arts brings its masterpieces to the community with DIA InsideOut. Livernois Avenue is home to four pieces, including two near Mike’s Market, one at Jo’s Gallery and one at Simply Casual Clothing Store. For more information, pleasevisit the InsideOut Facebook page.

August 2: The annual event “Jazz on the Avenue” runs from noon-10 p.m. along the Avenue, with live music, a fashion show and business specials. Vendors at the Handmade Marketplace include Bags by Brittney, Black Bottom Designs, Salikas', Nur Creations, Si of Relief, and more. The “Homemade Marketplace,” hosted by the Livernois Community Storefront, will feature local artists from 1-8 p.m. For more information, please visit the event's Facebook event page.

August 21: Time to get up and feel good with the James Brown Dance Party, going on from 6-9 p.m. at the Livernois Community Storefront, 19410 Livernois Ave., as part of August's 3rd Thursday celebration. Many Livernois merchants will be open late with special discounts for customers. Take a dance lesson from 7-8 p.m., and enter the costume contest. August 21-24: D:Hive Build will be displaying their graduates’ goods at the Build Bazaar, a pop-up marketplace that showcases entrepreneurs from the BUILD program. They plan to kick off the Bazaar at Good Cakes and Bakes, and then move down to the Livernois Community Storefront for the remainder of the weekend. One of the most successful grads, Trish’s Garage, will be there with back-to-school specials. Check it out on Thursday from 6-9 p.m., Friday from noon-6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information, please visit the Facebook event page.
