Why you are going to love my class
Because you will feel relieved and surprised that your preconceived notions about certain patient populations are not borne out.
Plus, because of my background in behavioral mental health and as a psychotherapist, I can share real-life experiences about different patient populations and diagnoses, which makes the information a little more grounded.
Great things for you at UDM
When it comes to the practice of nursing, you need to be engaged in the assessment and treatment of the whole person, not just what particular medical diagnosis is presenting. I want to help you reach your potential and I will do whatever I can to help you be successful.
Great things in store after UDM
Becoming a nurse means you are taking on a lot of obligations and responsibilities in our society. That can be challenging, but also profoundly rewarding.
My favorite part about teaching you
Fielding your questions. There are no dumb questions. You can always feel free to share your perspective, whether in agreement with me or not, so we have an exchange around differing ideas. I also like your enthusiasm; it recharges me.
I might change your mind
I hope you will not leave my classes holding onto that "us vs. them" mentality — as though people with psychiatric disorders are some different creatures. Every one of us has a potential for being effective or ineffective in our life.
We all struggle, we all have differences and we need help in profound ways in terms of feelings and how we perceive reality. There isn't a dichotomy; some people just have more trouble than others.
You might like to know
Although I consider myself knowledgeable in quite a lot of areas, I have the same flaws a lot of people do. I want you to know you can come to me at any time with anything and get an understanding ear.
