What you will take away
When you leave my class, you will have an appreciation of how you can be a good systems steward. A good systems steward understands good planning and decision making, how to put organizational parts together and in good balance, how to motivate and how to use technology to the betterment of society.
Great things for you at UDM
One of the things that you will like best about my class is the opportunity to have open discussion. I try to encourage you to express your opinions and engage in discussion and debate about systems and technology issues. I think that you will find our discussions to be rather thought-provoking, and I think it will prepare you to be better able to deal with such issues.
Global dimensions of business
In our world today, it is very important for you to understand the global dimensions of business. Throughout our Business program, you will take courses that have those dimensions built into them. We have specific courses in international coursework, and you will have an opportunity to join me in "study abroad" programs, such as in Rome or in Barcelona. Technology knows no global boundaries and you need to be prepared to act in that business world.
Great things in store after UDM
I know you will be successful in the job market when you graduate from University of Detroit Mercy. Our students have opportunities to prepare themselves for that graduation date. You can participate, for instance, in our co-op program which allows you to gain work experience prior to even graduating. But, I think, most importantly, our students are prepared for a vocation in life. They do not just get a job, but they get a job they have fun in, and I think that is the secret to reaching your goals throughout life.
What does "we want great things for you" mean?
I think that University of Detroit Mercy does an excellent job in preparing you as a whole person. Not only are you prepared academically, but you're prepared spiritually. You're prepared in mind, body and soul. And I believe that you will lead with compassion, and that's what is going to make you an excellent alumnus of our University.

I am the regional director for the Financial Executives International, which has a membership of about 15,000 CFOs of companies with $20 million or more in assets. I find that membership to be very useful in the classroom. You will hear many stories of my interactions with chief financial officers and the impacts of systems and technology.
