Student Positions - Help Desk, Academic Labs, and Audio-Visual

The ITS department is one of the largest employers for student positions at the University. Work study and non-work study positions are filled each academic year and provide students close to a real-world experience in a job environment. Good employees also earn the opportunity for good references.

Student employees are expected to operate at a professional level by reporting to work on time as scheduled and dressed in a presentable and appropriate manner. During slower times, students are expected to fulfill the "study" portion of the title of the position and utilize such time focused on academic studies.

Help Desk positions generally involve providing support to callers and walk-in users regarding basic use of hardware and software. A good technical knowledge is very beneficial to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.

Academic Lab positions generally involve answering hardware and software questions for students utilizing the academic computing labs. The student positions are responsible for signing in students, monitoring printing, and ensuring a quiet learning environment.

Audio-visual positions generally involve delivery of mobile equipment to the classroom and providing assistance to those using the built-in equipment.

All positions require strong attention to timeliness, strong communication skills in English, and a willingness to learn.

Positions are generally filled after graduation. In most instances, positions are filled before Term I begins. It is recommended anyone interested in this type of work experience ask to be placed on the wait list for the position of interest. Wait lists are maintained by the respective department managers for each area.
