Great Things at the School of Dentistry

Endodontic Searchable Web Site

The Department of Endodontics has developed the web site, Evidencebasedendo.com, as a resource for an evidence-based literature database available to the entire dental community to help justify historical and current endodontic (root canal) treatment decisions.

Dental Hygiene Program

UDM's Dental Hygiene students consistently rank well above the national average in passing the National Board and state licensing examinations on the first attempt. The dental hygiene curriculum includes seven classes that are combined with dental students providing an opportunity for future dental hygienists and dentists to begin developing a team approach to practice.

School of Dentistry offer free care, braces

UDM's Department of Orthodontics, in conjunction with Covenant Community Care Dental Center and Henry Ford School-Based & Community Programs, hosted the "Access to Care: Free Braces" event in June. Approximately 500 children, nine to 16 years old, were screened at the School of Dentistry on the Corktown Campus. Sixty of the participants were then selected to receive free braces. Learn more in the UDM news release. In May, the School of Dentistry hosted the Michigan Day of Oral Health Out-Reach (MIDOOR) event, in conjunction with the Michigan Department of Community Health. According to WWJ-AM, the crowd of hopeful patients reached the dental clinic's capacity within the first hour. The School received more than 1,200 patients during the event. Governor Jennifer Granholm was at the School to celebrate UDM's commitment to serving its community with excellent dental care. Read more about MIDOOR at UDM.

Dental School wins "Best Expansion" award

The UDM School of Dentistry received Crain's second annual Merger & Acquisition Award in the "Best Expansion" category. The Dental School was recognized for its expansion project in moving to UDM's new Corktown Campus in January 2008. As stated in Crain's Detroit Business, "The expansion project has boosted school enrollment and patient volumes and greatly improved the space used for dental education."

School of Dentistry celebrates smiles and anniversary

The School of Dentistry Clinic held its "Give Kids A Smile" event in February with close to 400 volunteers and over 250 children accompanied by their parents. This was the fifth year that the local dental societies of Detroit and Macomb and Oakland counties partnered with the School of Dentistry to provide free dental care for metro Detroit children.
