Faculty Highlight Catholic Nuns Who Built U.S. Hospital Systems

Associate Professor of Health Services Administration Mary Kelly, RSM, and Associate Professor of Nursing Maureen Anthony presented the methodology and some findings of their study of Catholic nuns who have been responsible for building an extensive hospital system throughout the United States. PA Program Chair receives Physician Assistant Education Association Interprofessional Leadership Grant

Assistant Professor and Chair of the Physician Assistant Program Amy Dereczyk received the 2015 Physician Assistant Education Association Interprofessional Leadership Grant. The grant will develop an oral health public health initiative that can be implemented in the City of Detroit. See Wayne State University press release for more information on the initiative.

Faculty Win Nightingale Awards

Two faculty members from the McAuley School of Nursing were named recipients of the prestigious Nightingale Awards for Nursing Excellence. Professor of Nursing Carla Groh received the Education and Research Award, and Clinical Associate Professor of Nursing Carmen Stokes ‘00 received the Education and Research Runner-up Award at the Nightingale Awards for Nursing Excellence annual ceremony, May 7.

University of Detroit Mercy Nursing students Caitlyn Gauthier and Marcus Smith appeared on WJBK-TV's Fox 2 News Morning show, April 26, to discuss why Michigan's infant mortality rate is higher than the national average, with Detroit's rate more than double the national average.
