Detroit Opera House

Built by renowned architect C. Howard Crane in 1922, the Detroit Opera House is noted for its magnificently designed lobby, ornately vaulted and coffered plaster ceilings, and one of the largest performance and backstage areas in the country. The Opera House Ambassadors give talks and demonstrations and conduct tours through wardrobe, wigs and make-up, dressing rooms and the orchestra pit.

Ten young society women founded the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, which performs at Orchestra Hall, in 1914. Briefly renamed the Paradise Theatre in 1941, Orchestra Hall went on to serve as one of America's premier jazz venues for such performers as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Count Basie and Duke Ellington.

Fisher Theatre

The Fisher Theatre is located in one of the most magnificent buildings in Michigan. Designed by architect Albert Kahn, it was completed in 1928, named a Michigan Historical site in 1978, and a National Historical site in 1982.

Fox Theatre

Annual events held at the Fox include Sesame Street Live, Blue's Clues Live, David Copperfield and Lord of the Dance. The theatre also features a host of nationally and internationally renowned entertainers.

The Fox opened its doors in 1928; its magnificent interior is Oriental with elements of Hindu, Persian and Chinese architecture.

Gem Theatre

The Gem Theatre is a Mission-style building constructed of white sandstone and red brick, with artistic stone carvings and overhanging cornices. It has been restored since its opening in 1927 and features a premier restaurant called The Century Club.

Hart Plaza

The plaza, designed by Isamu Noguchi, has a grand waterfall located directly in the center of the festivities on the beautiful waterfront.
